Retford Cricket Club

With improving weather, Retford Cricket Club is longing for the longer, lighter, warmer days and a return to the full games they so enjoy. In the meantime, players are using a variety of local indoor facilities to dust the cobwebs off their bats, reacquaint themselves with the art of bowling and re-hone fielding skills.

Concurrently, their junior teams have already been hard at it in their indoor competitions, run under Notts CCC organisation and allowing the youngsters to start sizing up this season’s opposition. These short, fast-paced, exciting games also act as a fabulous introduction for those to whom the sport is still very new. Friendships are being rekindled within the teams as well as across the club divides, proving the game is not just competitive but generates its own community spirit.

Back to the outdoor game and this season’s fixtures have been agreed and finalised, providing opportunities for all the club’s playing members to represent the club and town. Retford Cricket Club will be a busy hub for the sport on both days of almost every weekend throughout the coming summer, from just after Easter until September. Add to that the junior outdoor matches on early weekday evenings, and opportunities to come and enjoy the games will be abundant.

What of the women’s game, you ask. Once again, the Club Women’s Softball team is entered in the East Midlands League. For the future, the Club has a vision to expand what it offers women including formats up to and including hardball.

While the club will be busy, the facilities will still be available for private hire for a variety of events including meetings and celebrations.

For any information about what the club can offer, whether playing cricket or spectating, whatever type of game, and use of the premises, follow the club on socials or email retfordcricketclub@gmail.com.
