East Markham WI’s January meeting started with WI business, including resolution voting, details and signing up for the Birthday Dinner, County events and advance notice of the Annual Meeting.
President Alena introduced local firefighter Vince Lane as the speaker for the evening. Vince, a firefighter for 27 years, is a Watch Manager at Sutton on Ashfield fire station and, as he lives locally, is a retained firefighter for the Tuxford station. He gave an interesting talk and told amusing stories of fire station life over the years. There was also a serious side to the night, with a discussion around risks, hazards and smoke alarms.
Marie gave the vote of thanks for a very informative and interesting talk. The raffle was drawn, and refreshments were served as members socialised before the evening ended.
Mobility in Later Life was the subject of February’s meeting, and then in March the WI will celebrate 76 years in East Markham, with a members’ Birthday Dinner and entertainment from The After Eight Quartet.
April is the start of the WI year, when memberships are renewed and a new monthly programme of talks, demonstrations and other events commences. At the meeting on Tuesday 15th April there will be a presentation by the Lincs and Notts Air Ambulance, whose sales table will be open after the meeting. The Annual Meeting of East Markham WI is on 20th May and is for members only. Nominations for the committee are invited. If you are interested in joining and helping propel the WI through its 77th year, please see Vicky, the Secretary or any committee member.
Visitors and new members are always welcome to meetings. For more information contact either 07971 291883 or 07802 225999, or go along to East Markham Village Hall on a meeting night. Meetings start at 7.15pm.
