The Wednesday (Memory) Group

How’s the New Year going? Perishing! Icy pavements, frozen locks, horrid cold drafts, and dire warnings about the cost of turning the heating on – enough to make anyone decide to stay in bed and hibernate until spring. Wednesday came around, and it wasn’t clear whether anyone would attend the first meeting of The Wednesday (Memory) Group after the Christmas and New Year break, but…

The doors were opened, chairs and tables were put out, the kettle was turned on, and… Behold! Most members arrived on time and were thrilled to see one another, chatting and exchanging stories about what they’d been doing and how much they had enjoyed their time with family and friends.

It is impossible to overestimate the importance of a social life in maintaining wellbeing, happiness, and even longevity – it really makes that much difference! And the fact that the group made it to their meeting despite the weather demonstrates just how much social interaction is needed and appreciated.

Anyone who cares for someone with dementia, has a diagnosis themselves, or would like to learn more about the Wednesday Group, should get in touch. For the latest on what the group is doing and current availability, contact Jan on 01777 709974 or 07969 180067, or email janwilliamson133@gmail.com. Although there is a short waiting list at present, the group is looking into ways to accommodate more people.

The cost is £10.00 per session, which includes lunch, and the first visit is free!
