Kia Orana! – “I made you wonderful”
The World Day of Prayer, led this year by women from The Cook Islands, will take place on Friday 7th March at 2.00pm at St Saviour’s Church of England, Retford. All are warmly invited to attend.
The Cook Islands, a group of 15 islands in the South Pacific Ocean, is known for its vibrant Māori heritage and strong connection to nature. The theme for this year’s service, ‘I made you wonderful’, invites participants to pray and reflect together.
The World Day of Prayer is an international, women-led ecumenical organisation that provides a platform for women worldwide to share their hopes, concerns, and prayers. The preparation process is extensive. It begins years in advance, with the writing country and theme being chosen. Once the service is drafted, it is sent to the International Committee in New York for translation and dissemination to National Committees in each participating country. The service is then refined and shared at national, regional, and local levels, culminating in the celebration at churches worldwide.
On Friday 7th March, communities in over 120 countries will participate. The day begins in Samoa, and as prayers are offered in native languages, the wave of worship travels through Asia, Africa, the Middle East, Europe, and the Americas, concluding 38 hours later in American Samoa – a truly global event.
