The East Markham Apple Day committee would like to extend a huge thank you to all the volunteers, too numerous to name individually, who either helped on the day or contributed by making the delicious offerings on the tasting table. It would be impossible to run this event without them.
The event was blessed with better weather than predicted, and there was a very pleasing turnout of people eager to enjoy the day, picking apples, eating pork rolls, drinking cider, and listening to music.
Every year, funds raised are distributed to local charities and village groups. This year’s main charity, The Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance, will receive £1,500. Some attendees may have noticed the helicopter’s fly-past on the day! Additionally, a donation of £500 will be made to Hempsall’s Heritage Orchard (not the incorrect name we printed last month) to support ongoing maintenance and to fund new trees. Further contributions of £75 each will be given to the village Rainbow, Brownie, Guide, and Cub Scout groups.
2025’s event will take place on Sunday 5th October. Anyone interested in joining the committee to help organise the event or just to assist on the day is most welcome.
