Lunchtime Organ Recitals at St Swithun’s

Exciting times lie ahead! Following the recent updates to the interior of St Swithun’s Church, the old carpets have been removed from the east end, where the organ is situated. This change has unexpectedly transformed the sound of the organ – a revelation discovered during July’s recital by John Robinson, Director of Music at Blackburn Cathedral.

His thrilling programme showcased the organ’s newly enhanced sound. The organist later commented that it was ‘lovely to hear the organ in such glory in the new acoustic’. Audiences can now appreciate the organ as it was originally intended!

The next opportunity to experience this ‘glorious sound’ will be on Thursday 19th September at 1.00pm, when David Butterworth, former organist of St Mary’s Church, Nottingham, will perform another exciting programme of organ music, lasting around an hour.

Admission is free. Light refreshments will be available from 12.15pm, with a small contribution requested. A retiring collection will be taken to support the maintenance of this splendid instrument.
