Wheatley Bowls Club will be opening their green on Saturday 13th April at 2.00pm.
They are a friendly, welcoming group and are actively recruiting new members, both experienced players and beginners, to join them. The lawn bowls green is situated in a pleasant location, next to the Village Hall in South Wheatley with parking just outside. The driveway is opposite the Post Office.
The Club hosts social play for all abilities on a Saturday afternoon and is introducing a beginners’ session on some Thursday evenings starting in May. Further details next month.
From May to September, members play competitively in the Gainsborough League on Monday and Wednesday evenings, the Isle of Axholme Senior League on Tuesday afternoons and the Ordsall League on Thursday afternoons. Last year they had a successful season, winning the Senior League and the Gainsborough League Cup. They are competitive but their biggest priority is community and participation.
Playing bowls has many health benefits. It helps to maintain muscle mass, vascular health, functional ability, cognitive health and mental health. That’s not to say it won’t drive you mad at times.
If you are interested in taking up a new sport, why not contact them? They can provide the equipment; you just need flat shoes with little tread.
