Wheatley Bowls Club

by | 8 April 2023 | Hobbies, Retford, Sports Club

The Wheatley Bowling Green will be opening for the new season on Saturday 15th April at 2.00pm (weather permitting) and every Saturday of the summer.

Although the Club plays matches in local leagues during the week, Saturday is an informal ‘roll up’. Players old and new can just turn up, pick a token at random and join in a game.

If you would rather just give it a try and practise a little, go down on your own or in a group and members will show you the basics. Please be warned it is the most frustrating game but very addictive!

Lawn bowls is a low impact activity that combines hand-eye coordination with cognitive skills and balance to get the asymmetrical bowls closest to the jack. It improves aerobic fitness, joint mobility and balance. It is also said to reduce stress and irritability (not all members would agree with that last part!) and improve mental health and social interactions.

Wheatley Bowls Club is really welcoming and the wider bowls community to be very friendly. The Club is very inclusive and not at all cliquey. Members enjoy taking part – although they will admit to quite liking to win as well!
