Retford u3a looks forward to seeing more members at meetings this year at The Well in Retford.
Retford was supposed to be at the heart of Anglo-American celebrations of the 400th anniversary of the Pilgrims’ reaching America in 1620. On 24th February, Jenny King will be telling the group about the historic local connections with the Pilgrims who settled America in her talk, ‘The Pilgrim Embroideries, Made in Retford’. Jenny will also talk about the embroideries made to commemorate the 400th anniversary. The joint British-American celebrations of the anniversary were a local casualty of the lockdown in 2020. Go along and find out about one of Retford’s main claims to historical fame.
On 24th March, Canon Dick Lewis will tell the group about ‘Trinity Hospital, Past and Present’. Find out how the custodians of some of our most beautiful buildings continue their longstanding support for local housing and heritage.
Shortly before this, on 13th March, Retford u3a will hold a free Interest Group Workshop in the morning for anyone who wants to find out what is involved in running groups.
There are lots of possibilities for new groups. You can start with a completely new idea – a darts club, for example – or you can even duplicate popular oversubscribed existing groups. Why not another book club, snooker group or walking group? Are you part of an existing group whose leader wants to pass on the reins?
