As we all start a new year with hope and expectation, Retford Lions are planning events and thinking of ingenious ways of raising funds for local good causes. A new venture this year is an evening to remember at the Majestic Theatre, as sixties icons Dave Berry and the Cruisers, together with Chris Farlowe and Vanity Fare, will be performing on Saturday 26th February.
Even if you can’t remember hits like ‘The Crying Game’ or ‘Little Things’, you will be in for a great evening with these evergreen stars.
As well as performing throughout Europe, Dave Berry and his band are still recording and making themselves current in the modern world. Dave Berry’s stage act, which draws on the work of Elvis Presley and Gene Vincent, provided an inspiration for Alvin Stardust.
Chris Farlowe, best known for his 1966 number one ‘Out of Time’, was also the first to release ‘Handbags and Gladrags’ and, through his close association with The Rolling Stones, released several covers of their biggest tracks. His unique voice has kept him current, and he is used in many television productions.
Vanity Fare formed in 1966 and are best known for their hit ‘Hitchin’ a Ride’. They had success in the USA and Canada, where they achieved a gold disc for sales. With a few changes of line up, they have been touring since the mid-seventies and are known for their brilliant stage performances.

Looking forward, the planning for the Lions annual ‘Ted Waterfield Memorial Golf Day’ on 22nd July is well underway. This year the Bassetlaw Hospice and the RNLI are the chosen charities.
Retford Lions would like to thank the people of Retford and District for their support during Santa’s sleigh visits to the area – a great success despite the obvious limitations.
