Following a brief social reunion for members in August, Sutton and Barnby Moor Gardening Club has now returned to regular monthly meetings on the first Tuesday of the month at Barnby Moor Village Hall, Kennel Drive, Barnby Moor.
In September there was an excellent talk from Rudie’s Roots about hardy exotics and the exotic garden, and members were able to purchase some of the plants he brought along.
At the October meeting the guest speaker was Lynn Heslop. Lynn founded Dewberry Horticulture in East Markham in 2012 and is a former student of the Royal Horticultural Society, completing her Master of Horticulture studies at Wisley Gardens, Surrey, in August 2018. Lynn was at the RHS Chatsworth Flower Show in June 2019 where Dewberry Horticulture presented the show garden ‘From Darkness to Light’.
They received an RHS Silver Medal for their work, which exhibited the journey undertaken following a personal trauma. Lynn gave a wonderful talk covering all aspects of garden design, from soil pH, garden furniture and planting to considerations about where to put the washing line! Lynn’s presentation was delivered to a group of just over 30 people in attendance on the night.
The next meeting will be on 2nd November; the guest speaker will be Rachel Barrowcliffe, who will be talking about the autumn garden.
7th December sees the Christmas outdoor decoration workshop, which costs £5.00 per person for members. The members’ Christmas meal is on 17th December, and then for the first meeting in the new year on 4th January, guest speaker Victoria Francis will be talking about the Horticulture of the Commonwealth Graves.
The Club always welcome new members; if you wish to join, why not go along? There is a cost of £2.50 per evening for non-members. Should you wish to join the annual subscription is £15.00 per annum, but currently is pro rata up to and including March 2022.
