The Wednesday Group

by | 14 December 2023 | Retford, Support Group

Only three Wednesday Group meetings in December this year, so the group fully intends to celebrate every single one of them.

First up is a festive lunch for members and friends at the West Retford Hotel. This is one of the highlights of the group’s calendar; the staff are kind, the food is lovely and there’s plenty of time to talk in a relaxed and beautiful environment.

Next is the Retford Ukulele Group performing, so that will be another fun and joyful afternoon.

Finally, there is a festive buffet lunch, Christmas games and prizes and lots of music, courtesy of the group’s favourite pianist, Frank.

It’s all about reviving happy memories of the past and making some new ones to sustain in the coming year. Everyone needs their memories; they are part of our identity. What makes Alzheimer’s such a cruel disease is that in taking away our memories, it robs us of ourselves and our relationships to others.

One of the best things we can do for those we are caring for is to recreate past happiness by enjoying with them music that provided the soundtrack to the happy times in their lives.

If you care for someone with dementia or you yourself have a diagnosis and you think the Wednesday Group might be helpful, do get in touch. For more information, contact Jan on 01777 709974 or 07969 180067 or email janwilliamson133@gmail.com for the latest on what the group is doing and current availability.

There is currently a waiting list, but it may not be for long. Although there is a charge to cover costs, your first visit is free.

The Wednesday Group will be closed on 27th December and 3rd January and will reopen on 10h January.
