Retford U3A

Now in its ninth year, the Retford branch of the U3A has a membership of over 500 people. There are around 50 interest groups and new members often join the U3A, specifically to join just one group. There is a full general U3A meeting, held once a month, at the Well Baptist Church, Retford, on the fourth Thursday of the month.

December is the month of family and friends. But not everyone is lucky enough to have family, and those who have dismissed family in the past may now be feeling vulnerable and alone. Those who have lost someone dear to them this last year will find it difficult over the Christmas period, and we should all look out for them.

The old lady or gentleman who live next door, what will they be doing on Christmas Day, will they even bother to celebrate it? Those of us lucky enough to be with family and friends should give a thought to the grumpy old neighbour, and just look out for them.

The committee are looking forward to the New Year, and congratulate all the group leaders for the splendid job they have done in the last year. Norma with her Luncheon Club; Ingrid with Local History; Irene with the Gardening Group and Roy with Military History, and so many more. Well done everyone and thank you for your support.

The ethos of the U3A, which stands for The University of the Third Age, is that we keep ourselves active in body and mind, learning from each other, with shared knowledge and experiences.
