The weekend of 7th and 8th September saw the latest round of the East Midlands Racing Association championship.
Once again, retired Nottinghamshire Police Sergeant John ‘The Fox’ Fowler, who recently celebrated his 85th birthday, was in attendance and was signed on to the marshalling staff by Chief Marshal Shaun Dalton of The 1946 Marshals Association. John was given the job of signalling the end of two of the races by waving the chequered flag at the finish line.
Racing legends Keith Pringle and Rodger Wibberley had earlier given John access to their paddock set up and told him all about their racing past and successes.
Thanks to the weather and the slick organisation of the races the weekend ran smoothly. At the end of Saturday’s events, Chief Marshal Shaun drove John round the circuit for two laps to give him an idea of the layout of the track.
John was taken to the circuit by Manx Grand Prix rider Andy Guy, who on his Aermacchi 350 had finished sixth at the event on the Isle of Man two weeks ago.
