Lound Bird Club is looking forward to the next talk in its winter programme on Wednesday 28th October, where speaker Peter Garrity will give an illustrated talk entitled ‘Barn Owls – The Inside Story’. Peter has been fascinated by Barn Owls for many years. In 2023, he decided to put up a Barn Owl nest box in his garden and installed cameras inside and outside the box. His talk will tell the story of some amazing events that occurred over the following two years, all recorded on camera. Peter describes the talk as ‘a story of natural selection and survival’. The talk is at Sutton cum Lound Village Hall, 38 Town Street, Sutton-cum-Lound, DN22 8PT. What3words: ///whispers.drumbeat.later. There is ample parking behind the village hall. Doors open at 7.00pm. Entry costs £3.00, including refreshments. Everyone is welcome.
The club’s subsequent illustrated talks, running from November through to April 2027, will cover birdwatching in China, birdwatching in the Pyrenees, the Nightjar and wildlife found ‘Within a Mile of My Home’. The programme will conclude in April with a talk on the wildlife of the Pantanal and Atlantic Rainforest. Lound Bird Club also has a year-round programme of guided walks around Idle Valley Nature Reserve and elsewhere. The walks, which are better described as strolls, are taken at a gentle pace, allowing participants to enjoy seeing and hearing birds and the many other forms of wildlife that can be found along the way.
