Mad March hares are embedded in our folklore but, looking at the calendar, maybe the committee at Kirton in Lindsey Town Hall have gone a bit mad too! There’s a veritable feast of activities coming up in the next few months covering a wide range of topics. Hopefully there is something here for you.
Folklincs Presents the Folkmap of North Lincolnshire
Sunday 3rd March, 3.30pm to 7.00pm
Folklincs are touring North Lincolnshire to create a folk map of our area. They would like the people of Kirton in Lindsey and surrounding areas to be part of this exciting project. Take your stories, your traditions, your music, maybe even your dances. See how far they have got with producing the map, and see what customs and traditions are part of Kirton’s past and present. Put your stories, songs and memories on the map.
Let your children try some traditional instruments (or try them yourself!), maybe listen to a story, then stay for the concert and enjoy some great music. Doors open for the ‘Come and try’ and folk map information at 3.30pm until 5.30pm and the concert begins at 6.00pm, tickets cost £5.00. Tea Dances
Second Monday in the month, 2.00pm to 4.00pm
Kirton’s monthly tea dances are a firm fixture in the calendar and January celebrated the 100th dance! It’s a popular and gentle way to spend the afternoon, drink tea, dance and meet like-minded people. Live music is provided by John on his keyboard. The cost is £3.00, including refreshments. The next sessions are 11th March and 8th April.
Yoga Soundbath
Saturday 16th March, 1.30pm to 3.00pm
Sound has been used as a therapy all over the world since ancient times and this session is aimed at providing valuable relaxation space that’s much needed in today’s world. It involves a very gentle movement sequence suitable for all levels and simple calming yoga breath techniques. You are encouraged to close your eyes, relax and listen to live sound waves from crystal bowls, gong, drum, Tibetan bowls and chimes. The cost is £10.00 per session. ‘Climb That Tree’

The next offering from the Lincolnshire Rural Touring Scheme is a family musical production brought by the Little Seeds Music Company. ‘Climb That Tree’ is the brand new show from award-winning songwriter and musician David Gibb. This concert is suitable for age three and upwards. Tickets cost £6.00, or £5.00 concessions, or a family ticket is £18.00 (two adults and two children). Kirton in Lindsey Neighbourhood Plan Drop-in
Thursday 28th March, 1.00pm to 8.00pm
Go along to the Town Hall and tell them what you want for your town. Neighbourhood Planning is about local people giving local views on the future development of land use in their community. Land use means land for residential, industrial or leisure use in the future. The ideas fit in with and can inform the Local Plan and, of course, have to fit with National Planning Laws. Within those constraints they can express views on the shape and size of our town, the balance of types of development (even no development). Go along and tell the organisers what you think. The ideas will become the topics for a referendum of the whole town when they’re all put together. The organisers want the views of everyone with a stake in the town such as residents of the parish, farmers, landowners and local business owners.
80s Disco Party
Saturday 30th March, 7.00pm to 11.30pm
If the 1980s was your decade then here’s a chance to relive it! Fancy dress is encouraged but optional. Tickets cost £5.00 from One Stop in the Market Place and more information is available from Sharron on 07752 246255.

Spring Barn Dance

Spring Festival
Sunday 5th May, 10.00am to 4.00pm
Enjoy a whole day of activity and family fun. There will be the chance to hear Lincolnshire traditional songs on the theme of spring; have refreshments to the sound of medieval and renaissance music; learn Tudor dancing, hear instruments of the time and find out about life for a Tudor rural court musician. There will be Morris dancing outside, musician’s sessions in the pubs and face painting in the Heritage Room.
The climax of the day which will be a concert by Passamezzo. Their performance will consist of ballads, lutesongs, consort music, madrigals, dance melodies and readings, and follows the season from the melting of the ice at the beginning of spring, through maying, maypoles, hobby horses and feasting, to the sheepshearing and Whitsun holidays that mark the coming of summer.
Most of the morning activities will have free access and the afternoon concert tickets are £10.00 individual and £25.00 for a family ticket for two adults and two children (advised age eight years and over).
