Do you watch ‘Strictly’? Do you like to ballroom dance to the Big Band Sounds? Do you fancy an Afternoon Tea Dance? Morton Ballroom Dance Group (MBDG) could be the answer to your dreams!
MBDG has been running for 16 years, originally to live music, but now to recorded music – hence the Big Bands. The dancing is mostly ballroom – the clue is in the name – but there are also a couple of sequence and ‘Old Tyme’ dances included at each dance. Waltz, quickstep and foxtrot are the favourites, but there’s also Latin in the form of rumba, cha cha, tango and the occasional samba. There is also the occasional jive for the more energetic! All dances are introduced so, if you are not sure of a tune, you will be told. As is usual at ballroom dances, they usually play two tunes for each dance type.
The group isn’t full of expert dancers, but everyone is very enthusiastic. They also have an excellent social atmosphere, which has built many friendships over the years.
Dancing starts at 2.00pm, breaking at 3.00pm for a cuppa and a biscuit – sometimes more on special occasions! Dancing resumes about 3.25pm and finishes at 4.30pm. (This is a dance – not lessons!)
The dances take place once every four weeks in Morton Village Hall, Walkerith Road, Morton, at a cost of £5.00 per person.
There is also a raffle, with items brought by the dancers.
All ‘profits’ from the dances are either spent on providing extra refreshments on those special occasions mentioned or donated to one or more local charities on a regular basis as agreed by dancers.
The next dance is on 7th April. MBDG hopes to see you there! For further information please contact 07581 531595.
