Bike Week is a national celebration of cycling. Taking place from 9th to 7th June, Bike Week is an annual opportunity to promote cycling as a source of fun for families and individuals, you will feel great taking part. In Gainsborough, the two Bike Week co ordinators, Trevor Halstead and Daniel Nicholson, are very excited about National Bike Week. They are involved in six different activities. Their largest event will be a charity fundraising ride for The Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance on Sunday 10th June. There are sponsored rides for all the family of 10, 15, 30 miles. Start at 10.00am from The Studio, Heapham Road Industrial Estate, Gainsborough and get your sponsorship forms from Gainsborough Cycles.
The Pedalling Picnic, from 4.00pm on Sunday 10th June, is a fantastic event, people of all ages pack their tea time goodies and make their way to Richmond Park in Gainsborough for one big family get together.
Gainsborough Aegir Cycling Club is running a short five-mile Novice Race on Wednesday 13th June. If you have ever wondered what it is like to take part in a Time Trial and you are over 12 years of age then why not give it a go. Riders under 18 are required to wear a helmet and require parental consent. The overall winner will receive The Gainsborough Cycles Trophy to keep for a year, there are junior and ladies’ awards. The race has also got a mountain bike category. Meet on Laughton Lane (near the junction to East Stockwith) at 6.30pm.
A leisure ride in The Isle of Axholme (40 miles) departs Roseway, Gainsborough at 9.30am on Sunday 17th June.
All week you are encouraged to Bike2Work, support a charity by either raising sponsorship money and/or donating the money you save by cycling to work instead of driving. ‘Dr Bike’, a free 31 point visual safety check of cycles, will also be available at Gainsborough Cycles on Ropery Road.
