As we begin to move through a brand-new year, and restrictions are finally lifted, it is important now to hit the ground running in order to return to normal life through supporting and meeting with our family, friends and colleagues, face-to-face, whilst also supporting our local businesses in whatever way we can.

Connexions in Gainsborough are approaching some very exciting times too; their new social hub (Chat, Chill, Connect) at 100 Church Street is now in its final phase of refurbishment and once opened will be offering new activities such as an after school club, arts and crafts and colouring club. These are all due to begin during March and April.

With the support of West Lindsey District Council, LCVYS and Garfield Weston in providing grants, and thanks to volunteers, trustees and supporters for their commitment and hard work over recent months, the organisation has been able achieve so much, in such a short space of time.

They have also forged new partnerships with other organisations and education providers including the Disability Network, Gainsborough Heritage Centre, Lincoln College and Lincoln University.
Connexions Community Hub is home to so many Gainsborough programmes and here we tell you about just a few:

Community Learning at Connexions

The ‘Community Learning Initiative Connexions’ offers both funded and fee-paying courses to all ages. Delivered via their tutors on Wednesdays and Saturday afternoons, they offer a personalised development programme tailored around your skills, interests and hopes for the future. Courses include Youth Work, all levels of the Arts Award, PTLLS / AET, functional skills short courses in Maths and English. Other core subjects on offer currently include History and PSHE. Their learning programmes are presented in an informal, yet focused environment.

Stay and Play Mondays

Connexions run a ‘Stay and Play Monday’ almost every week from 10.00am until 12.00pm. The group creates an inclusive, safe space for parents, guardians or home childcare providers to talk with others openly about anything parent / child related. With activities and toys provided for the young ones, parents can have a hot drink a chat and relax knowing their children’s needs are catered for.

Connexions 4 Youth

When Connexions first opened, a youth committee was formed. After a rebrand, Connexions 4 Youth was created and has gone from strength to strength. The group meets to discuss ways to help one another and the community. From running youth socials each month to helping with events / activities at Connexions, the group have learnt and grown. They have provided community clean ups and taken part in training. Young people and adults from age 14 can join and welcome to take part.

Performing Arts Club

The club is based at Connexions and is working towards its next variety concert of music through the years, which will be performed in April. Post-pandemic numbers for the club have increased, which is fantastic, and they very much hope this trend continues. Sessions take place on Monday nights between 7.00pm and 9.00pm.
