The Museum of the Horse in Tuxford is delighted to be holding a conference with the authors of recently published books, including

  • Erica Munkwizt from the US whose work covers the history of the side saddle.
  • English academic Emma Herbert Davies speaking on Medieval Horse veterinary work. She has just translated a 13th century book from Latin.
  • Alison Moller, whose is behind ‘The Enlightened Horsemanship in the 18th Century’

On Wednesday 2nd September, from 10.00am to 4.00pm, you can meet these great speakers, join in the handling quiz of curious antiques and vintage equestrian items and tour the museum’s side saddle exhibition. Tickets cost £50.00 for the day, including lunch. Please book in advance, via curator@museumofthehorse.co.uk or 01777 838234.

The Walks of Life Museum is linked to Tuxford Network Rail Test Track. Find out more about the work of the Europe’s largest railway test track during a special event on Thursday 6th August, from 11.00am to 1.00pm, at the Walks of Life Museum. At this free event, Jacob, the test track manager, will be sharing news about engineering and design features of trains travelling at 125mph. This event is suitable for secondary school pupils, with refreshments available.

Also in August, join the Museums to celebrate Nottinghamshire Day on Tuesday 25th August. The aim is to honour the county’s heritage and culture and encourage residents to appreciate their community. The museum is developing a display to celebrate, called Tuxford Trail Blazers and featuring people and companies who have made a positive contribution to Tuxford. Celebrate with them on Tuesday 25th August from 11.00am to 4.00pm. Refreshments will be available. You will be amazed at what people have the achieved. Find out about the hidden stories from people who have lived and worked in Tuxford.
