Do you know what this is?
It’s a vision screening camera, a simple piece of equipment that can help identify potential eyesight issues in young children before they affect learning and development. Edwinstowe and the Dukeries Lions are currently being trained to use this technology, which has been adopted by Lions clubs nationally and internationally. The screening is particularly aimed at children in Years 1 and 2, helping to highlight potential concerns that can then be referred to an optician for further assessment. The club will soon be contacting local groups and organisations to explain how it can benefit children in our communities. The Lions have a long history of supporting eye health initiatives, including the collection and redistribution of unwanted spectacles both in the UK and overseas.

Get involved
The months ahead are set to be busy, with the Lions hosting their annual Charter Dinner Dance, helping with the gleaning of local apple trees and preparing for their popular Christmas Santa Sleigh Run. This is their biggest fundraising activity and plays a vital role in enabling them to support local good causes throughout the year. However, it is becoming an increasingly large operation. With growing communities in Ollerton, Edwinstowe, Bilsthorpe and surrounding villages, they need more volunteers than ever before to reach everyone.
The Lions are looking for volunteers to help support events and fundraising activities. New members are also always welcome. Whether you’re joining as an individual or as a couple, you’ll find a warm and welcoming group. The club is about far more than fundraising. It’s about friendship, community spirit and making a positive impact where it matters most.
