Anyone learning to play a musical instrument would benefit from watching professional musicians master the art of classical performance. The Scunthorpe and North Lincolnshire Concert Society, a registered charity, offers children free entry to its exciting monthly concert programme when accompanied by an adult.
Described as ‘Early Music’s very own Spice Girls’, Palisander is a recorder ensemble that prides itself on imaginative and dynamic performances. Their programme, Double, Double, Toil and Trouble, explores the themes of magic and music, with a repertoire spanning 900 years. The group performs on recorders ranging in size from six inches to six feet tall, combining spoken word, poetry, song, movement and choreography to create a truly unique concert experience.
The programme includes works by JS Bach, Tartini, Sweelinck, Hildegard and new commissions inspired by historical mathematical calculations. Palisander was awarded both First Prize and the Audience Prize in the Biagio Marini Competition 2022. Their debut album, Beware the Spider!, received a four-star review from BBC Music Magazine, with Katie Derham describing them as “making recorders phenomenally interesting and exciting”.
Palisander will be performing for the Scunthorpe and North Lincolnshire Concert Society on Friday 12th December. Concerts begin at 7.30pm and finish by 10.00pm. Single tickets cost £18.00 and can be purchased on the door. The concert will take place at Outwood Academy Foxhills, Foxhills Road, Scunthorpe, DN15 8LJ.
Car parking is free, with interval refreshments and raffle tickets available to purchase. The venue also offers easy wheelchair access.
