Maltby Musical Theatre Group performed Calendar Girls at Rotherham Civic Theatre in March, during which they did a collection to raise money for the same cause that the original Calendar Girls are linked to – Blood Cancer UK.
The musical was a wonderful show and the cast and audiences enjoyed it from start to finish. The six main cast members (Rachel Smith, Wendy Barrows, Fiona Broadhead, Elaine Demaine, Lizzie Murphy and Anita Wilshaw) who depicted the original Calendar Girls were overwhelmed with praise, generosity and also the amount of people who wanted to share their own stories.
Cancer affects so many people’s lives and the story the show told was relatable to so many people in the audience. That was reflected in the money raised during the show week, other events and, of course, the Group’s own ‘artistic’ calendar sales. They raised a massive £1,600 for Blood Cancer UK!
Maltby Musical Theatre Group are now preparing for their next show, ‘Kipps: The New Half a Sixpence Musical’, which will be at Rotherham Civic Theatre from 5th to 10th March 2024. Rehearsals are already underway and it is sure to be just as entertaining (if not more so) than Calendar Girls. Tickets are on sale at www.rotherhamtheatres.ticketsolve.com/ticketbooth/shows/1173643716.
They are also hosting their very own Christmas Market at the Wesley Centre Maltby on Saturday 2nd December with free entry, lots of stalls and delicious refreshments!
