While many people are only just beginning to think about Christmas, volunteers behind Rotherham’s Christmas Toy Appeal are already preparing for the festive season.
For over 30 years, charity Families First has helped ensure that children and young people facing hardship can experience the excitement of Christmas morning. Yet, as families continue to feel the pressure of rising living costs, organisers say demand for support is growing year on year. The appeal’s dedicated volunteers are once again calling on the generosity of local people, businesses and community groups to help make a difference. This year, the target value for each gift package has been increased to £30.00 to reflect higher prices and to ensure every child receives a meaningful selection of presents.
Recognising that not everyone can contribute a full gift package, donations of all sizes are welcomed. Gifts and contributions will be combined so that each child receives a gift bag to the required value. Every year, our town comes together to make sure no child wakes up without a gift on Christmas morning. The Rotherham Christmas Toy Appeal works closely with schools, social services, and local charities to ensure toys reach children who need them most.
Thanks to your generosity, in 2025 2,051 children in our town had a present waiting under the tree, meaning Families First gave out over £41,000 worth of brand-new toys and gifts.
The official launch of this year’s Christmas Toy Appeal will take place at Parkgate Shopping on Friday 6th November from 5.00pm to 7.00pm. Supporters, volunteers and the appeal’s Christmas Elves will gather to mark the start of another season of fundraising and community spirit. As the countdown to the festive season begins, organisers are hoping the community will once again rally behind the cause. Drop-off points will appear across Rotherham and at any of the stores on Parkgate Shopping.
