If you’re not currently in full-time employment and are looking for a way to stay active, learn something new and meet like-minded people, then Rotherham u3a could be just what you’re looking for.
Rotherham u3a is inviting local residents to its Open Day on Thursday 10th September, from 11.00am to 3.00pm, at Parkgate Astro, S62 6FH. The event offers a chance to find out more about the organisation, meet current members and experience the wide variety of activities available across the borough.
Part of the national Third Age Trust, Rotherham u3a follows the motto ‘Learn, Laugh and Live’. While the national organisation offers a wealth of online learning opportunities, the local branch focuses on bringing people together through a broad range of face-to-face groups and activities.
Members can choose from an impressive selection of interest groups covering arts and crafts, dance, languages, music, sport and social activities. The Open Day will showcase many of these groups, with arts and crafts members displaying their work and opportunities to join in with games and bridge. Visitors can also enjoy performances throughout the day, including:
- Ukulele Group: 11.00am to 12.00pm
- Dance Group: 12.30pm to 1.00pm
- Singing Group: 1.15pm to 1.45pm
For those interested in keeping active, there will be opportunities to try several popular sports:
- Walking Football: 11.00am to 12.30pm
- Walking Cricket: 12.30pm to 1.30pm
- Walking Netball: 2.15pm to 2.45pm

U3A Eye success
The judging panel at U3A Eye, the organisation’s national photography competition, have selected two members from Rotherham to exhibit at the U3A Festival in York, based on their dazzling creativity.
Congratulations to Diane and Neil who created a pair of truly unique visual experiences by upcycling everyday household objects. Neil’s piece, titled ‘Fragments’, shows a smashed blank CD photographed using the natural light from a large window to show off the colour spectrum. Diane’s piece is a ‘trick’ photo titled ‘Is it New York?’ which uses different.
