See you on court

Funding has been approved for the renovation of two tennis courts at Retford Tennis Club.

The Retford community will benefit from the all-weather tarmac courts which will be available to non-members through a pay and play system allowing them to be booked online.

Approximately £90,000 has been granted from the FCC Communities Foundation and this will be put towards the cost of renovating two current grass courts which are in disrepair.

Paula Graham, the Club’s chairwoman, believes the new courts will make a huge difference: “The renovation project has been in the pipeline for a long time; this grant has brought it within touching distance as we await a decision from Nottinghamshire County Council to complete the funding. We hope the newly laid courts will be available at the start of the tennis season next year.”

Retford Tennis Club on Hospital Road has been a part of Retford life since 1891 and it has seen multiple years of growth in recent years as it has successfully offered walking tennis, children’s coaching and the HAF (holiday activities and food) programme.

It also has a vibrant open social tennis schedule as well as world class coaching for those wishing to stretch themselves. Their inclusive walking tennis programme won an award from the Notts LTA – Tennis For All.

The Club is a warm and friendly group of tennis lovers with excellent facilities; if you can already play or want to learn, regardless of age, you will be welcomed.

Go along and visit them and enjoy a couple of free taster sessions. Membership ranges from £15 for under 12s to £120 for adults. Check out www.retfordtennisclub.co.uk for more details.
