Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust – North Notts Group

by | 7 August 2023 | Retford, Wildlife

August will be a busy month for nature lovers and all sorts of activities are being planned in and around the Idle Valley centre and reserve in Retford.

Gary Hobson, a Wildlife Trust volunteer as well as being a member of Lound Bird Club, is planning to lead one of his popular Nature Walks every month in the local area. He has already taken walks around Idle Valley Nature Reserve in June and the Idle Washlands in July. In mid-August, he’ll be heading back to the Idle Valley again for his third walk.

The June walk there won him high praise. Lots of birds were seen and identified: avocets, green sandpipers, oyster catchers and many others. Damsel flies and dragonflies were also spotted near the water. One walker said of Gary that he is ‘one of the best natural history guides I have ever been out with’.

More activities are being planned at the Idle Valley Centre too. If you went to the May event, you certainly won’t want to miss the August ones. There were lambs, a beautiful calf, lots of exciting kids’ activities, guided walks, plenty of people to chat to – never a dull moment.

Full details of upcoming events involving the North Notts Local Group of Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust are not yet available, but you won’t miss them if you sign up for Local Group Updates. You’ll be able to book your (free) place on the walk and you’ll get advanced notice of all activities, talks, outings and whatever is happening (as well as warnings of any unexpected late changes).
