Morton Tea Dances – under new management!

The Morton Ballroom Afternoon Tea Dance Group had expected to have closed its doors for good following the Christmas Dance held at Morton Village Hall on 15th December.
This was partially triggered by the retirement from organising the dances of David Lomas, who had been involved in that task for over 18 years! David was the last of the original group of organisers who originally established Ballroom Dances at Morton Village Hall. His departure was marked by a short speech of thanks and a gift from the remaining dancers.

The Christmas Dance included mainly Christmas music and a small buffet with a Christmas theme.

There had been a great wish amongst dancers to continue with the monthly dances both from a dancing perspective but also because of the very strong social bond between dancers. Negotiations between the dancers and the Village Hall Committee has seen a reduction in hours and a consequent reduction in costs for the Group.

This has made use of the venue more viable and so the dances can continue into 2023. It will be run on a DIY basis, with the dancers sharing the actual running of the dances each month.

The first dance of the year will be on Thursday 26th January, from 2.00pm until 4.30pm, including a refreshment break at 3.00pm.

Any new dancers who wish to attend will be made very welcome. Music is from CDs and includes such dances as Waltz, Foxtrot, Quickstep, Valeta, Gay Gordons, Barn Dance, Square Tango, Mayfair Quickstep, Tango, Rumba, Cha Cha and with the occasional Jive thrown in!

The dances will generally be held on the third Thursday of the month (but please ask for a detailed list of dates) at Morton Village Hall, Walkerith Road, Morton, Gainsborough DN21 3AL. The February dance is on Thursday 16th February.

Good exercise, good fun and very good company – go along and join the fun!
