Volunteers do not necessarily have the time; they just have the heart…

At Doris Banham Dog Rescue (DBDR), volunteers are integral to what they do as a charity: saving the lives of dogs. DBDR has saved the lives of 15k+ dogs to date. Without their volunteers, they couldn’t have done this.

Many of their volunteers have a personal connection with the charity and its mission, making the experience even more enriching and fulfilling. Each volunteer lives out the mission of the charity: ‘every life counts’.

Viv adopted her DBDR dog ‘Clyde’ six years ago. Viv began volunteering, including running fundraisers, delivering bedding / food to the kennels, cleaning kennels and exercising the dogs, and then persuaded her brother to set up and run the Doris Banham Dog Rescue website, www.dorisbanhamdogrescue.org. It’s not what you know, it’s who you know!

Debbie and Anne have been volunteering for 15 and 20 years respectively, running car boot fairs and stalls. They oversee DBDR’s Pets at Home Grantham Community Partnership. Anne is involved in fostering dogs ‘at the drop of a hat’ when required. Viv, Debbie and Anne also deliver a special dog-friendly Christmas lunch to the charity’s dogs every December.

DBDR’s volunteers are based all over the UK – they have Meg in the Northeast of England. Meg’s motto is ‘it’s all about the paws’. Meg runs fundraising initiatives that support the ongoing running costs for their 150 dogs’ welfare: vet and medication bills, food bills and kennel costs. Meg has recently set up a Facebook DBDR Bonus Ball fundraiser; if you’d like to take part and support the fundraising see www.facebook.com/DorisBanhamUK.

Louise is a digital marketing consultant and has been volunteering for DBDR since 2016. Louise is driven by her love of dogs, the admiration she has for the charity’s founder Trudie James and the charity’s life-saving mission of giving every dog a chance of life and ultimately, hopefully, getting them into a loving home. Louise has overseen many online fundraisers and is responsible for the annual calendar that is very popular with supporters.

Amazing teams run DBDR’s charity shops in North Hykeham, Lincoln and Conisbrough, Doncaster. There are such lovely things on sale and every penny raised goes towards the dogs in Doris Banham’s care. Please pay their shops a visit – you (and your dog) will be sure of a warm welcome!

‘Artist Andy’ was diagnosed with Primary Progressive Multiple Sclerosis in 2002. Andy loves drawing and decided to develop it as a way of maintaining his manual dexterity. As a dog lover, Andy gives his time and talent to creating beautiful pet portraits. Since last December, Andy has raised an impressive £1,246 with his artwork for DBDR.

‘When someone gives you their time, they are giving you a portion of their life that they will never get back. It’s one of the most precious gifts you can receive’. Thank you to everyone who volunteers.
Doris Banham Dog Rescue wishes all readers and supporters a very happy Christmas.

As they struggle with the present national animal welfare crisis, Doris Banham Dog Rescue is desperate for more fundraising volunteers. If you would like to save lives with them please contact Trudie James (Charity Founder) on 07597 049231 or email via their website, www.dorisbanhamdogrescue.org.
