Volunteer starts mental health training business

Peter Troop is a 52-year-old man who has suffered with depression for about 25 years.

He is open about the fact that he has been in some dark places, and realised a couple of years ago that he needed more help. He sought this help from the Gainsborough charity Bearded Fishermen.

Peter started volunteering for Bearded Fishermen Mental Health Charity about 18 months ago, and discovered in himself a passion for mental health and first aid. He found that he still wanted to do more to promote mental health, so he has decided to start his own business, PJTTraining, teaching mental health first aid and more traditional physical first aid.

In his free time Peter travels around schools and colleges, invited to talk to students about mental health issues and enjoying the chance to get the word out and help more people to understand mental health.
