On a Tuesday morning in April a group of nine Gainsborough U3A Buccaneers Group members descended on The Picasso Pottery Café in Gainsborough, to try their hand at painting on pottery. Fortified by hot beverages and toast or cakes, they then each chose a white bisque to try to turn into a thing of beauty. They had a lovely morning. They had a lot of fun and for a while their only conversations were asking for different colours from the huge range available. The time flew by.
They found the whole experience most therapeutic and have planned two return visits; one as a group to collect their works of art (when they have been fired and glazed) and two, a return visit with grandchildren.
The Gainsborough U3A meets every second Thursday of the month at 10.00am in Gainsborough Methodist Church. The first 20 minutes is for coffee, social chat and to find out what each club is offering over the next four weeks. There is then five to ten minutes business before members hear their speaker for the month. April’s talk was ‘Barrow to Baghdad and back’ and May’s talk is ‘Orchid hunting in France’.
If you are over 45 and retired from full time employment, you will be most welcome to join them and see what the organisation offers.
