This Girl…. Takes on the Imps!

by | 17 August 2021 | Children's Group, Gainsborough, Group meeting

An intrepid group of 12 from 1st Morton Guides and 1st Willingham Rangers took on the Lincoln Imp Trail and challenged themselves to meet all 30 of the Lincoln Imps in just two hours. Setting off from Lea Road station, Gainsborough they walked a four-and-a-half mile route, passing through the University Quarter, Brayford Pool, Steep Hill all the way up to the Cathedral Quarter. Around the Castle Walls, Greetstone Steps and Lincoln College.
Their newest recruit made her Guide Promise by the Girlguiding ‘Girls Can’ Imp on the High Street and they all made a wish with the Wishing Imp at Newport Arch (may have been a few football related wishes made there). It rained very hard at one point but they were, of course, prepared with waterproofs!
The girls were very impressed with the clever painting of fruit and vegetables on the Imp at Eastgate Hotel. They also liked that every Imp has a little birdbath created by its folded arms. The only disappointment was that the Van Gough Imp still has two ears!
They also learned about the What3words app and using it as an important aid for the emergency services. They even plotted the ‘grid words’ for each of the Imps in the trail.
The girls agreed it was a great challenge and highly recommend it for local families and tourists. The trail takes in parts of the city that even the Leaders, who all know Lincoln well, haven’t walked before.
Girlguiding Lincolnshire North and Girlguiding Lincolnshire South have collaborated to produce a badge for the challenge that each girl has been awarded. All profits from badge sales are being donated to St Barnabas Hospice.
