Do you recognise anyone in these photos? These are photographs of Guides and Brownies in Morton and one is possibly from the Coronation Day parade of Girl Guides in Gainsborough in 1952.
Girlguiding has been going strong locally in Gainsborough for at least 75 years with groups in Morton, Gainsborough, Lea and Sturton-by-Stow continuing strongly to the present day.
1st Morton Brownies were registered as a group in 1947, 2nd Gainsborough Guides registered in 1953, and the first Rainbow groups registered in 1987.
This May, 1st Morton St Paul’s Guide company is celebrating 50 years of continuous meeting, including meeting online through the recent lockdowns. As part of celebrations, current Morton Guides will be hosting a celebration evening on the anniversary of their opening, including a fashion show of uniforms through the years and a special badge.

In addition to this celebration of 50 years of Morton Guide Company, a display of Gainsborough Division Guiding archives will be mounted in St Paul’s Church, Morton as part of the Churches Festival weekend (14th and 15th May at 10.00am to 4.00pm). Call in to see the display as well as others from the village and sample homemade refreshments.
