The Delvers local history group will be hosting another of their popular blue plaque tours on Monday 9th June at 2.00pm.

The Thomas Miller Tour begins at Trent Bridge, next to the United Services Club, and forms part of a gentle riverside walk into the town.

The tour highlights the life and legacy of author and poet Thomas Miller, who was commemorated with the very first Delvers blue plaque in 1997. Tour hosts Darron Childs and Helen Hagon will guide the group, with Helen offering readings from Our Old Town.

Written in 1857, Our Old Town remains a classic for local history enthusiasts. In 1994, Darron Childs produced a version titled Golden Memories, which featured the life story of Thomas Miller and was subsequently voted Book of the Year by the Prime Minister’s brother in The Times.

Recently, Darron and Thelma Childs have undertaken a series of popular slideshows featuring many of the blue plaques with memories from the town’s history.

In total, The Delvers have self-funded 17 blue plaques around the town and are in the process of publishing a book on the history of the blue plaques and the stories behind them. The Thomas Miller Tour is suitable for all ages for anyone with a curiosity about history.

More information on the tour can be found on the Delvers’ Facebook page. Tickets for the tour can be purchased in advance online from EventBrite.
