Visitors to Gainsborough’s Old Hall were recently treated to a unique live Delvers Blue Plaque tour covering the Viking Age, led by author and historian Darron Childs, who is currently writing a novel based on his Viking Age research.
The Old Hall has also been selected to feature in a free podcast available on BBC Sounds, as part of the Secret Lincolnshire series, where Darron tells the story of the Grey Lady.
The final Delvers summer event is a Blue Plaque tour covering the Riverside walk on Saturday 14th September, at 1.00pm. Tickets are limited but available free of charge, with full details on EventBrite. If the event is oversubscribed, you can leave your details on EventBrite, where the organisers will keep a standby list.
The Delvers recently assisted the YMCA with their community engagement programme, working with students from Benjamin Adlard School to bring to life the history and stories connected to Gainsborough’s Riverside, such as the ducking stool which once stood near Chapel Staithe.
You can support this event by purchasing a copy of ‘All Our Yesterdays – A Bygone Reflection of Old Gainsborough’ for £5.00 during the walk.
The Delvers are Gainsborough’s oldest history research group, established in 1988. You can join The Delvers, Old Gainsborough online, free of charge, on Facebook. Face-to-face meetings and slide shows take place during the autumn-winter months.
