Summer is over and it is time for some dancing.

Retford Scottish Country Dance Society will be starting their autumn classes on Tuesday 5th September at The Community Centre, Cheyne Walk, Ordsall, DN22 7GA from 7.30pm to 9.30pm.

As an introduction the first night will be a taster session where the group will go through the simple steps and dance terminology. There are many hundreds of dances which come under three groups: Jigs, Reels, and the more sedate Strathspey.

Not danced before. No problem; you don’t need to have experience and you don’t have to bring a partner; all that’s needed is enthusiasm, comfortable shoes, and a mug for a cup of tea. Everyone moves around and you will find yourself dancing with many different partners. So, it’s a great way to make new friends and boost your social life.

Scottish Country Dancing has lots of added benefits. It can improve confidence and self-esteem and is acknowledged for increasing fitness and stamina. One hour’s dancing can burn up to 300 calories, as well as reduce stress, increase energy, and improve co-ordination and memory.

This is a small friendly group to which everyone is invited, from newcomers to experienced dancers. Go along and give it a try; the taster session and your first night are free, thereafter £5.00 per session.
