Special Blue Plaque Tour

by | 27 January 2024 | Gainsborough, Heritage

On Friday 2nd February, author Darron Childs, a member of The Delvers history group, will lead the first commemorative event to mark the 1,010-year anniversary of the death of King Sweyn Forkbeard in Gainsborough with a special blue plaque tour.

There are 17 Delvers Blue Plaques around Gainsborough, all of which have been funded by The Delvers, who last year launched their summer programme of Blue Plaque tours.

Darron was a featured guest in the epic Danish TV series Tøget, that aimed to retell the amazing journey of the Vikings, including the links to Gainsborough. More recently, the BBC published an article on his latest research on Sweyn Forkbeard, who became the first Viking King of England on 25th December 1013.

Darron has also created a serialised novel based on his extensive research. The 90-minute talk and tour starts at 6.00pm on Friday 2nd February, the eve of the anniversary of Sweyn’s death at Gainsborough.

Tickets are available online only at www.eventbrite.co.uk (www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/3-kings-blue-plaque-tour-1010-anniversary-of-sweyn-forkbeard-s-death-tickets-780868146647).
