It seems no time at all since the very active Scunthorpe Little Theatre Club celebrated 50 glorious years, and now here they are celebrating their 75th anniversary.
Established in 1949 by a small group of enthusiasts who met at a drama course held in Scunthorpe, and now with a membership of 48, who would have thought that 75 years and over 200 shows later, involving over 1,000 different enthusiasts, that the group would continue to grow stronger than ever.
The Scunthorpe Little Theatre Club (SLTC) still produces three shows a year, including a traditional family pantomime in the town’s Plowright Theatre.
Many of the large membership are encouraged to be involved both onstage and backstage.
In order to accommodate the large membership, additional activities are offered to members not currently involved in current productions, including: touring local halls with Old Tyme Music Hall Evenings and one-act plays, play readings, quizzes, treasure hunts, BBQs, games nights and sampling menus at local restaurants.
An active junior group, ‘The Rising Stars’, was introduced several years ago. They are involved in the club’s annual pantomime and other club productions which require young actors such as The Diary of Anne Frank.
There is even a group for retired members: ‘Dinosaurs who Dine’, who travel from all over the country, three times a year, usually arranged to coincide with the SLTC productions.
New members are always welcome. If you would like to join this ‘Happy Band of Players’, please contact them either on their website or through Facebook.
