Scunthorpe Little Theatre Club

As things start to get festive, Scunthorpe Little Theatre Club are well into their pantomime rehearsals and things are getting exciting!

This year they are performing Aladdin, a very special script to the club because this was also their very first pantomime, way back in 1966. The original script was updated for their 2016 pantomime, exactly 50 years after the first, and this year it has been brought right up to date with more laughs, adventures and sparkle than before!

This year’s pantomime really will be special. They have a large talented cast, beautiful new costumes, exciting dances, toe-tapping songs, plenty of thrilling genie magic, and a colourful set complicated enough to make their tech team nervous.

For their first time in the director’s chair, Romy Morgan is directing the show and said: “I have been in SLTC pantomimes since the age of 10. As a young child, I visited the club’s pantomime every year on a Brownie trip, and fell in love with theatre. I longed to be involved, and was eventually able to join the club’s youth wing and perform in those pantomimes that I adored so much.

“Then at the age of 16 I joined the main club and got my first role in… Aladdin! Yes, the last time this pantomime was performed, I played the Princess’ Handmaiden, which was my very first role. Now nine years later, I am making my directorial debut with the same pantomime I first had a role in. The little Brownie who loved to watch SLTC’s pantomimes every year wouldn’t believe that I’m directing one now!

“Since getting my first role in Aladdin, I have had the opportunity to play a number of different roles, and each time I perform, I am proud knowing that the show will inspire and excite other young children the way I was, and this year is even more exciting, knowing I’ve actually created the show as director!”

Join Aladdin and friends for a magical adventure for the whole family at the Plowright Theatre in Scunthorpe from Wednesday 15th to Saturday 18th January at 7.00pm, with a 2.00pm matinee on Saturday.
