Some say that owners resemble their pets and some say that musicians become like their instruments. Is there any truth in the adage that the personality of a musician is often in harmony with the one evoked by the timbre and technique of his instrument?
Bone-Afide Trombone Quartet is an international chamber ensemble made up of some of Europe’s leading young trombonists. Not only do they represent the radiance of the trombone, they also strive to showcase the versatility of the trombone, performing works from all genres and periods with the aim of defying stereotypes surrounding the instrument.
The Scunthorpe and North Lincolnshire Concert Society are delighted that they will soon be playing for them an expansive programme including The Peacock by Kodaly, Rossini’s William Tell Overture, excerpts from Swan Lake and a selection of popular Christmas pieces and carols. Alongside being chamber musicians, the members are keen orchestral musicians appearing on the professional circuit, including playing with the London Symphony Orchestra, Berlin Philharmonic and English National Opera.
In 2020, the quartet became joint winners of the International Trombone Association Quartet competition. Later in the same year, they became a recipient of the prestigious Tunnell Trust Award. It’s not easy for people in Lincolnshire to travel to capital cities to watch acclaimed performances so these opportunities are to be savoured. Consider it an early Christmas present to yourself because if you have never seen or heard the gusto of live brass, be prepared to be blown away.
