Save the Parish

Alison Milbank, co-founder of Save the Parish and author of ‘The Once and Future Parish’ will give a talk at St Helen’s Church, Gateburton, DN21 3BA at 2.00pm on Wednesday 14th February.

The Lea Group of Parishes, which covers nine rural churches locally, are experiencing severe difficulties due to decisions made by the Lincoln Diocese to implement a national policy of re-organisation by the Church of England.

The effect on rural parishes is ominous: priest numbers are drastically reduced and churches and rural communities are severely threatened. There is strong opposition to the policy, spear-headed by the Save the Parish movement, which is for anyone and everyone who believes that churches belong to the people.

Save the Parish wants to make sure the Church of England deploys its resources to invest in clergy, slow down the current process of parish amalgamations, the increase in parish shares, and the expansion of bureaucracy and bad governance which is strangling mission at grassroots / parish level.

Those interested are warmly invited to this event.
