Owing to the hopefully-temporary demise of indoor bowling in Gainsborough, some Riverside Indoor Bowlers travelled to Lincoln Indoor Bowling Centre to play a friendly against the Lincoln Players recently who issued the invitation. It was a very enjoyable event, with the Riverside team made very welcome. Food was provided and there was plenty to talk about. It was very good of Lincoln to invite Riverside, and it was good for so many Riverside members to meet up like they used to do in the West Lindsey Leisure Centre in Gainsborough.
Indoor bowls is a beautiful game; you need plenty of skill and patience, it provides mental and physical wellbeing and it helps keep people fit in a social environment. It can be played socially as a hobby or competitively in leagues. It is sad that Gainsborough and district residents have been deprived of the opportunity to enjoy this sport locally.
The trustees of Riverside Indoor Bowls are still aiming to bring indoor bowls back to the district to save members a 45-mile trip to other indoor bowling centres. Some members have had to stop playing indoor bowls as they cannot travel. With so many housing estates being built throughout the district, it seems reasonable to expect that present and future residents would benefit from having this choice of sport. If you agree with returning indoor bowls to Gainsborough, please write to your West Lindsey District Councillor and support Riverside Indoor Bowls.
