Members of Misterton Parish Council selected their 2024 Village Champions from nominations submitted at the April meeting of the Council. Joseph Pacheco and Emma Durham received their awards from the Chair of Misterton Parish Council, Councillor Peter Marsden, during the family day on the old school field on Sunday 4th May.
The junior award was presented to Joseph Pacheco in recognition of his support at numerous village events, including Parish Council activities and the Gala, where he assisted with set-up, volunteered throughout the day, and helped with the close down. He has also contributed to putting up the village Christmas trees and helped with the maintenance of the community garden. Recognising Joseph’s efforts may encourage other young people to get involved in the community.
Emma Durham was nominated for her dedication to the local junior football club, where she has served since 2021 as welfare officer, first aider, and Mini Kicks coach. When her son’s team was left without a manager, Emma stepped up to coach solo for seven months. Shortly after the first match of the season, she successfully recruited an assistant coach to support the team. She also coaches children aged three to six, and more recently, has introduced sessions for seven to nine-year-olds that focus on fun, ball-based activities without the pressure of full team commitment.
Emma manages all this while working full-time, raising two children, and contributing to the community as a member of the Neighbourhood Plan Steering Group and the Parish Council’s Sports Ground Working Group.
Congratulations to them both!
