NGS gardens are re-opening!

All National Garden Scheme gardens are now able to open and serve refreshments. Many gardens will continue to be available to visit by pre-booked tickets only, other gardens may not need pre-booking, so please check individual garden entries on the website,, before visiting.

GROUP OPENING: Askham Gardens
Markham Moor, Retford NG22 0RP
Sunday 13th June, 1.00pm to 5.00pm

Visit four varied pleasant English village gardens and a flower festival in the church, Dovecote Cottage is an enchanting terraced cottage with amazing roses, perennial beds and raised fish pond. Orchard House features flower beds, shrubs, fruit trees, lawns, fishpond and vegetable raised beds. The Stables incorporates a fantastic hedged kitchen garden and new colourful beds. Nursery House is a plantsman’s garden, secluded and private; and features an attractive water feature. Some wheelchair access, dog friendly, plants for sale, refreshments.

GROUP OPENING: Norwell Gardens

Sunday 27th June, 1.00pm to 5.00pm, and Wednesday 30th June, 6.30pm to 9.00pm

Celebrating 25 years of village garden openings, this year visitors can enjoy six different gardens including an opportunity to visit the village allotments, and Norwell Nurseries and garden, all making use of the beautiful backdrop of a English countryside village, showing the diversity that is achieved under the umbrella of a cottage garden description. Wheelchair access, plants for sale, parking, refreshments.

A formal front garden with terraced lawns and borders lead to a shaded area with ferns, camellias, roses, hydrangeas and other flowering shrubs. Lovely old fashioned cottage garden with walled herbaaceous border, well stocked shrubbery, many old roses, kitchen garden, summerhouse and greenhouse. Covered pergola to sit and enjoy the views. Plants for sale, refreshments.

Three acre garden remarkable to its extensive variety of trees, shrubs and perennials, many rare and unusual. Very long colourful herbaceous borders, roses, woodland garden and large wildlife pond.
