Thursday 6th June sees the national commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings, in which Misterton had a particular role.

D-Day in 1944 began Operation Overlord in the Second World War to retake Europe from German occupation. It was one of the most iconic dates in the 20th century.

The local area played several significant and top-secret roles in this event. Local historian, David Seymour, will reveal all in his talk at 5.30pm in Misterton Library. Accompanying David’s talk will be an exhibition, which will stay in the library for two weeks.

From 6.00pm, there’s a bring-your-own picnic on the old school field. There will be a bar, live music of the period – and wear clothes of the time, if you wish. At 8.30pm, the beacon on Jubilee Garden will be lit and the national proclamation read.
