It’s been a busy time for the Lea Women’s Institute where the lively ladies have been on a mission to be good and do good. The social whirlwind has included playing croquet at The Venue, lending a helping hand at The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Celebration at Lea Park and show-casing their creative skills at The Lincolnshire Show.
Offering afternoon tea at Redcote Residential Home is where the ladies paid their respect and enduring affection for our elderly neighbours. The residents were delighted with the cucumber sandwiches and Victoria sponge. But, having heard a rumour and raising a suspicious eyebrow, what’s this about men being welcome at the Women’s Institute?
As part of the WI’s itinerary of planned events for the year, a talk from International Bomber Command was scheduled at Lea Village Hall. The men folk looked on jealously as the females formalised the arrangements. Why can’t they go too? On this occasion, men were welcome to join the event which was both enlightening and humbling. The speaker talked of the lives that were sacrificed during the war and the important role Lincolnshire air crews played in bringing about the freedoms we enjoy today.
The Women’s Institute’s is about companionship. The next outing is at 7.30pm on 4th August at Elite Fish and Chips, Tritton Road, Lincoln. If you’re a lady, consider joining them for a taste of what’s on offer. You’d be very welcome! They normally meet at Lea Village Hall on the first Thursday of the month at 7.30pm.
