Members of Lindsey u3a may be retired but NOT tired of life and have been out and about during the summer months.
The Architecture Group is planning a guided evening stroll around Folkingham on 24th August and, on 21st September, a coach trip to York (spaces still available). The Garden Group will be visiting a secret garden in Louth on 22nd August. These are just two of many interest groups; to find more visit www.lindseyu3a.org.uk.
They hold a general meeting at Welton Village Hall on the first Thursday of the month. Doors open at 9.45am for a cuppa followed by a speaker at 10.30am. The speaker on 3rd August will be Horace Liberty, a distant relative of the large Liberty family who came to prominence in the late 1800s when his ancestors built a large department store on Regent Street in London. He will tell members about the history of the family, the store, the business and the importance of their fabric designs.
On 7th September Fools Gold will be playing and singing folk songs from northeast England. Carol and Steve are acoustic musicians and will entertain with images, stories and songs from industrial Britain encompassing tragedies, mysteries, romances and so much more.
You can also join the group at the ‘Gardeners’ Retreat’ tearoom at Scothern Nurseries for a cuppa and a chat at 10.15am on the fourth Thursday of the month. The next get-together will be 24th August so whether you’re a newcomer wanting to know more about Lindsey u3a or if you’re already a member and just fancy a cuppa, do come along. Everyone is welcome.
As a multi-faceted organisation along with ‘Age UK’, ‘Aging Better’ and ‘Independent Age’ u3a would like to see a Commissioner for Older People and Aging established in England to deal with concerns expressed by many members such as the closing of local banks, health care and social care and much more.
