Visit an Open Garden in June and get snapping! The National Garden Scheme annual photography competition in association with BBC Gardener’s World is underway, and amateur photographers and garden enthusiasts are invited to take photographs at National Garden Scheme garden openings taking place up to 28th August. There are six categories to enter, including Garden Wildlife, Beautiful Garden Views and BBC Gardener’s World Magazine: Fantastic Flowers, from which the winning image will appear in the magazine’s 2019 calendar. The 3 acre garden encompasses formal and informal areas, incl a parterre, a sunken garden, a courtyard with rill, a walled Mediterranean garden, double herbaceous borders for late summer, lawns, pond, giant chess set, and a flower and grass meadow. It is a short walk to the medieval moat, which surrounds over an acre of wild semi-woodland garden with picnic table, benches and ‘beach’.
The Old Rectory

The garden is set in the 2½ acre grounds of a C19 rectory adjacent to the picturesque village church which has C12 origins. Surrounded by mature trees the garden has wide lawns with extensive herbaceous borders. There is a large polytunnel and fruit cage, vegetable plot and pond, a woodland garden, cutting garden, flower borders and a charming courtyard.

This is a much loved 3 acre garden with mature and interesting specimen trees and wildflower borders, vibrant herbaceous borders and varied and interesting terraced planting leading down to the ponds and cave. Wander across the croquet lawn to the old orchard with its magnificent climbing roses and relax with homemade teas.

Set in woodland our colourful cottage garden of approx one acre was started in 2013 and is still developing. We have mixed borders, shrubs, fernery, several quirky features, vegetable garden, and small secret garden. Plenty of seating around the garden but regret it is not suitable for wheelchairs.
