It happens just once a year that Lea Women’s Institute call to order their Annual General Meeting. In addition to the official business of the day, it’s a chance to reflect on the year that has passed and rejoice in the successes which have shaped the group.
It’s a been a whirlwind of activity – everything from playing croquet to supporting the Macmillan Coffee Morning; planting bulbs for the local community to eating fish and chips… the list goes on, and it doesn’t stop there!
Macmillan Coffee Morning
Hosted at Lea Village Hall on Saturday 20th May from 10.00am to 1.00pm, there will be a multitude of stalls including books, clothes, bric-a-brac, bacon butties and cakes.
Last year this event was very well-attended by the local community in support of this vital cause. Macmillan understand how cancer can affect people’s whole lives – health, money, family, job; everything. And, after more than 100 years of caring, they know that the most important thing is to treat people as individuals, not patients. The dedicated ladies last year raised almost £650 towards the charity.
The forthcoming year will undoubtedly see many more highlights evolve from the ever-imaginative ladies. More crafts, more cakes, more community spirit and more kindness. The Women’s Institute is there to offer support and opportunity to every woman who wants it, giving women a voice to make an even bigger impact and continue being a force for change in the world.
The next educational excursion is planned for Thursday 4th May to International Bomber Command Lincoln. It is a world-class facility to serve as a point of recognition, remembrance, and reconciliation. During World War II, over a million men and women served or supported Bomber Command and many gave their lives for our freedoms today.
