The topic for the latest meeting of Lea WI was drones, but there was no ‘droning on’ from Special Constable and Deputy Chief Drone Pilot Matt Williamson of Lincolnshire Police. His talk gave a fascinating insight into how flying robots are used to catch criminals and assist members of the public in distress.

Mini drones can be deployed inside buildings to locate hidden or injured people, while the fire service uses the same technology to ensure structures are safe to re-enter after a blaze. It was a clear demonstration of how man and machine can work in harmony when used in the right hands.

The next meeting will be held on Thursday 2nd October at 7.00pm in Lea Village Hall, DN21 5JA. The guest speaker will be from Home Instead, which provides award-winning home care to older people nationwide. Their ethos focuses on personal preferences and individuality to create unique care plans. Services include companionship, personal care, dementia support and clinical care, all delivered by trained professionals.

Lea Village Hall will also host a Macmillan Coffee Morning on Saturday 4th October from 10.30am to 1.30pm. There will be a variety of stalls, including books, clothes and bric-a-brac, along with hot bacon sandwiches and homemade cakes. A raffle will also be held to raise funds for this vital cause.
